Résumé

Pour mener à bien ce projet de re-création du DVD Maus, nous avons dû affronter une quantité de sources quasi infinie qui nous submergeait au point qu’Art Spiegelman a comparé la conception de ce projet à la tâche interminable de Sisyphe. Après une année de travail mené en totale complicité avec Art, nous avons décidé de concentrer notre action dans trois directions?: la création, la conservation et l’exposition. Je vais expliquer comment nous avons tenté de documenter la création de Maus par la présentation du texte principal, révélant ses liens et ses strates, et discuter les nuances importantes de cette œuvre, les actions de sauvegarde de sources originales qui périclitaient progressivement et pour finir comment nous avons scénarisé tous ces documents de façon cohérente et fonctionnelle. Creation, Preservation, Curation?: The Sisyphean Task of the MAUS DVD Art Spiegelman described the re-creation of the MAUS DVD as a Sisyphean task, overwhelmed by the endless amounts of material we had to grapple with when designing the project. Over the course of a year, as I worked hand in hand with Art, our undertaking focused on three main areas?: Creation, Preservation, and Curation. In this lecture we’ll explore how we attempted to document the creation of MAUS through the linked and layered presentation of the main text and discuss some of the deep nuances in the work, the acts of preservation of the original source materials that were succumbing to the impacts of time, and, ultimately, how we curated all this content in a meaningful and useful way.
